Jeddah Islamic Port has achieved a 25 per cent hike in total container volumes during April this year, handling around 465,348 TEU compared to last year’s 372,064 TEU.
According to monthly data published by the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI), the Kingdom’s busiest port recorded a 21.8 per cent rise in transshipments and restows from 214,686 TEU last year to 261,543 TEU this year.
The port’s cargo column saw an addition of 19.3 per cent to the 2022 volume of 4,409,557 tonnes to achieve about 5,261,883 tonnes in the previous month.
Key figures across major cargo categories include 128,714 tonnes of general cargo, 305,038 tonnes of dry bulk cargo, and 34,109 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo.

In addition, Jeddah’s trade hub processed 324 vessels over the course of April, a 13.3 per cent surge over last year’s count of 286 vessels.
This announcement comes less than two months after Jeddah Islamic Port announced it is reducing its carbon footprint by cutting back on crane activity and truck turnaround times, with the aim of reducing emissions by 1,046 tonnes in 2023.
