Jeddah Islamic Port nears 500,000 TEU

Jeddah Islamic Port handles over 491,000 TEU

Jeddah Islamic Port had the largest monthly handling in its history during the month of July, with 491,197 TEU handled.

This comes within the framework of the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI)’s efforts to strengthen its port system, increase capacity to 40 million TEU, and raise the Kingdom’s market share of regional transshipment to 45 per cent by 2030.

Jeddah Islamic Port succeeded in breaking its previous record, when it handled 473,676 TEU in the month of June 2023.

The latest success adds to the port’s recent accomplishments, including a record amount of containers handled in 2022 of 4.9 million TEU, a 1.57 per cent increase over 4.8 million TEU in 2021.

In June 2023, MAWANI announced the addition of Jeddah Islamic Port to the REX service operated by Omani International Logistics Group (ASYAD).

More recently, the authority announced the inclusion of Jeddah Islamic Port to the Turkey Libya Express (TLX) service by container shipper CMA CGM in partnership with the Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT).
