APM Terminals (APMT) has introduced a dedicated rail shuttle linking Helsingborg with the Port of Gothenburg, tightening inland connectivity and extending the port’s reach into southern Sweden’s logistics landscape.
Operated by Dania Connect and owned by APMT, the service moves containers between Helsingborg and Gothenburg in approximately five hours, positioning rail as a viable alternative for regional cargo flows and reinforcing intermodal integration.
Mathias Weismann Poulsen, Chief Commercial Officer at APM Terminals Nordic, said: “By launching our own shuttle, we aim to create business value for importers and exporters in the Helsingborg region. We are already seeing strong interest from both shipping lines and cargo owners in the local area.”
The new connection builds on Gothenburg’s established rail network, which already links nearly 30 inland locations.

In 2025, rail volumes reached a record 529,000 TEU, underlining sustained modal shift and capacity utilisation across the system.
The Helsingborg shuttle is expected to contribute incremental growth while strengthening network resilience.
Claes Sundmark, Vice President Sales & Marketing at the Port of Gothenburg, stated: “An integrated rail connection to the container terminal at the Port of Gothenburg represents a boost for the Helsingborg region’s business community in reaching global markets. This is a very positive initiative by APM Terminals that also strengthens the port’s overall offering.”
Launched in February with a weekly departure, the service is set to scale to three rotations per week, reflecting anticipated demand and a broader push to optimise hinterland connectivity.
The development also aligned with wider decarbonisation efforts at the port, following January’s announcement that Hydrogen Solutions AS planned to establish green hydrogen production at the Port of Gothenburg through a new electrolyser facility.
