Intermec scanner features near and far scanning technology allowing seamless transition between objects.

Intermec has released details of its new scan engine mobile computer capable of optical character recognition (OCR) of the shipping container number.

The company says its CK71 mobile computer, with the extended range EX25 scan engine is the industry's first bar code 2D imager to provide integrated near and far scanning technology capable of imaging the container number from 15’-30’.

With port operators needing to track every container, the image solution is set to save ‘walkers’ considerable time and man hours with its capabilities of capturing the numbers and digitally converting them.

“Intermec introduced the idea of using its software imaging to capture the horizontal codes and digitally convert them without any issues,” said a spokesman.

Intermec has many software-based Imaging Solutions that enable automated data collection when only letters and numbers are present.

These imaging solutions take advantage of the enhanced scan engine, camera and OCR capabilities present in many Intermec mobile computers.

The imaging solutions are designed to promote the paperless workflow process and improve yard operations.
