INFORM has been chosen to supply its Yard Optimiser and Crane Optimiser add-on modules to US intermodal operator Norfolk Southern’s Rossville and Austell terminals.

Several modules to enhance the stacked operations at both facilities will also be provided as part of INFORM’s ‘Optimisation Plus’ solution.

The solutions being delivered to the terminals is set to be custom configured to enable each site to reach their unique operation and optimisation goals as they are integrated into the site’s TOS.

“Expanding our US footprint with an innovative rail operator like Norfolk Southern shows both our commitment to strengthening and growing our US operations but as well our commitment to enabling our customers to leverage the best experiences from around the globe to drive their innovation,” said Dr Eva Savelsberg, Senior Vice President of INFORM’s Logistic Division.

In a statement from INFORM, the company revealed that by utilising AI and Operations Research (OR) based algorithms, the add-on module will assist the operational teams in reducing unproductive container moves during peak operations, while also recommending proactive housekeeping moves during off-peak operations.

“Our intermodal solutions have been used in Germany going on two decades and we’re very excited to be able to bring our stacked yard optimisation and crane optimisation experience to the North America market,” Savelsberg added.

Associated British Ports (ABP) has also chosen INFORM to optimise its vehicle terminal management.

Announced in June 2021, the collaboration between both parties will begin with ABP’s operations at the Port of Southampton with the aim of turning the terminal into a one-stop store for the vehicle’s journey from manufacturer to destination.
