Drone activity was reported near the Port of Salalah on 11 March, according to Omani authorities, amid rising security concerns across the Gulf region.
Oman’s Ministry of Defence said air defence systems intercepted two drones over Dhofar Governorate, while a third drone crashed near the port area.
The incident caused no casualties or damage, the government confirmed in a statement carried by the Oman News Agency.
Authorities said the situation was quickly brought under control.

The incident occurred on the same day that several commercial vessels reported being struck near the Strait of Hormuz, prompting fresh warnings from maritime security agencies about the threat environment for shipping in the region.
Advisories issued by UK Maritime Trade Operations have urged vessels operating in the Gulf and surrounding waters to remain vigilant and maintain regular communication with naval authorities.
There was no immediate indication that port infrastructure or shipping operations at the Port of Salalah were affected by the drone incident. Officials also did not attribute responsibility for the activity.

Located on Oman’s southern coast along the Arabian Sea, the Port of Salalah is a major regional transhipment hub linking shipping routes between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Authorities have not released further details while investigations continue.
