5. Emma Maersk

As one of the fifth largest container ships in the world, the Emma Maersk is the first container vessel in AP Moller Maersk’s E-class of ships, according to Ship Technology.

According to Emma Maersk’s website, the ship has a maximum TEU capacity of 15,000 and was the largest ship ever built when it was released in 2006.

The ship can reach a speed of up to 25.5 knots (29.3mph), according to the Daily Mail.

4. CMA CGM Jules Verne

In at number four is the CMA CGM Jules Verne, which has a total TEU-capacity of 16,000.

The CMA CGM Jules Verne emits CO2 emissions that are 30% below the minimum standard set out by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The ship already conforms to targets set out by the IMO for 2025.

 

3. Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller is the lead ship in Maersk’s Triple-E class of container ships with a TEU capacity of 18,270.

The ship’s name derives from the name given to the CEO of Maersk between 1965 and 1993 and was the longer ship ever built at the time of its release.

 

2. CSCL Globe

The CSCL Globe is the second largest container ship in the world and operated by China Shipping Container Lines.

Constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries and launched in November 2014, the CSCL Globe has an astounding capacity of 19,100 TEU.

At the time of its release, the container ship had the largest ship engine ever built that measured around 17 metres.

 

1. MSC: Oscar

Operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the humbly named MSC ‘Oscar’ currently holds the title as the world’s biggest container ship and is able to carry 19,224 containers.

The MSC Oscar was christened at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering shipyard in South Korea on January 8, 2015, and is expected to set sail imminently.
