Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) has successfully handled Messina Line’s JOLLY QUARZO, the first RoRo vessel to call at the terminal.
The cargo-containership docked at the facility on 1 February 2022 and marks the resumption of RoRo services at the Port of Karachi after 20 years.
Officials from the terminal and the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) welcomed the vessel and presented its crew with a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.
“As we welcome the multipurpose RoRo vessel to PICT, we look forward to further enhancing our customer-centric services and improving the reliability of our operations to strengthen maritime trade and uplift Pakistan’s economy,” commented Khurram Aziz Khan, Chief Executive Officer for PICT.
“The resumption of RoRo carrier calls at the Port of Karachi offers added value to exporters, provides additional opportunities to stakeholders of the country’s primary trade hub, and highlights PICT’s capability to expand its services and commercial reach.”
The terminal located at the Port of Karachi first started operations in 2002 and has offered connections to Central Asia, Afghanistan, and the Western China hinterlands.
Back in September 2021, the terminal also reached a major milestone with the handling of its 10-millionth TEU.
A ceremony to celebrate the achievement was held with ICTSI Regional Head, Hans-Ole Madsen (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), PICT’s Independent Director, Rune Rasmussen, and the PICT senior management team all in attendance.
