The Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), International Container Terminal Service, Inc.’s (ICTSI) main terminal, has completed the commissioning of three new quay cranes.
MICT owns the Philippines’ biggest dock crane fleet, at 18 units.
The new cranes’ operational efficiency will reportedly the terminal to better handle peak periods and heavy cargo volumes, resulting in smoother and more predictable operations for all stakeholders.
These enhancements aim to improve the entire customer experience by offering shippers and consignees more reliable and timely services.
Christian Lozano, MICT Chief Operating Officer, said: “The acquisition of these new quay cranes represents a significant step forward to MICT’s expansion and modernisation. Their addition enables us to handle cargo loads more efficiently, leading to faster vessel turnaround times and better operations overall.”

Aside from obtaining new equipment, MICT has begun Phase 2 of its Berth 8 expansion. The project comprises the building of a 300-metre dock and a 10-hectare container yard (complete build).
Once completed, the extension will boost MICT’s capacity by 200,000 TEU to 3.5 million TEU.
Berth 8 will be outfitted with three quay cranes to facilitate the handling of foreign ultra-large container vessels with a capacity of up to 18,000 TEU.
The new cranes are planned to arrive in 2027.
