Virgin Hyperloop One showcased the potential of its high-speed, industry-leading technology to members of Congress in Washington D.C on June 26, 2019, at an event called ‘Hyperloop on the Hill’ as part of efforts to broaden its support for the revolutionary mode of passenger and cargo transportation.

According to a statement, the event offered an insight into the company’s current developments, including Ohio, Missouri, Nevada and Texas.

It took place following the creation of the ‘Non-Traditional and Emerging Transportation Technology’ (NETT) Council, an initiative founded by US Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao to support new and innovative projects, including Hyperloop and self-driving cars.

The vision of the NETT Council is to develop and establish department-wide processes, solutions and best practices to identify and manage non-traditional and emerging transportation technologies and projects.

To that end, the NETT looks to provide assistance to local and state governments and to conduct research into the safety and regulatory needs of said technologies.

A big benefit of hyperloop is that it is environmentally-friendly, find out more about shipping's drive towards achieving green operations

Sir Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin Group, spoke highly of Hyperloop’s potential.

“We are seeing growing interest and excitement in the hyperloop vision from across the United States at both local and federal level.

“I believe we could see a hyperloop in the U.S. in years, not decades.”

Jay Walder CEO, Virgin Hyerploop One, urged the industry to take advantages of the opportunities offered by Hyperloop.

“It is time to seize the opportunity that hyperloop technology presents to bring people and economies closer together through more efficient, affordable, and seamless travel.

“We are now seeing the groundswell of support that’s needed to realize the hyperloop revolution with the formation of the NETT Council and support from lawmakers across the country.

“As hyperloop moves toward reality it’s becoming clear that it will not only transform how we travel but also create an entirely new industry with thousands of new jobs for Americans.”

Virgin Hyperloop One is the only company in the world that has successfully tested its hyperloop technology at scale, launching the first mode of transportation in over 100 years.

Ryan Kelly, the company’s Head of Marketing and Communications, recently spoke to PTI about hyperloop’s potential and the company’s future plans.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO of DP World and Chairman of DP World Cargospeed, a collaboration between the terminal operator and Virgin Hyperloop One to utilize hyperloop for cargo transport, also spoke to PTI. Both his and Kelly’s quotes also featured in an exclusive insight on hyperloop.
