HMM, KORAIL partner for eco-friendly intermodal transportation

Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to expand inland rail services.

The MoU covers using domestic rail infrastructure for chilled cargo and building an ‘Intermodal One-Stop Transportation System’ that integrates rail and maritime freight.

HMM and KORAIL will collaborate to increase the efficiency of a new container yard (CY), which KORAIL plans to secure.

This collaboration aims to establish a low-carbon logistics transportation system, lowering carbon emissions, while creating a new distribution centre and an international multimodal transportation network for reefer containers.

Lee Jeong-Yeop, the Head of HMM’s Container Business Unit, stated: “HMM places great significance on providing our customers with an Eco-Friendly service and, in particular, decarbonising domestic refrigerated transportation is possible.”

Recently, HMM announced that it would establish a new route connecting Far East Asia and Latin America to provide better service.
