HHLA PLT Italy, Maersk unveil new weekly service to Trieste
Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) PLT Italy and Maersk have strengthened their partnership with a new weekly shuttle service to the Port of Trieste, with the first vessel of the E17 service docking this week.

Connecting Port Said, Trieste, and Venice, the new service aims to enhance the Mediterranean logistics network and underscores Trieste’s key role.

Operated by the Nora Maersk, Maersk Valletta, and Maersk Valparaíso, it strategically bolsters Trieste’s position for handling reefer cargo, especially fruit and vegetables for Central and Eastern Europe.

To meet rising demand, HHLA PLT Italy has reportedly invested in cold chain logistics and will expand its reefer services.

The terminal’s Border Inspection Point streamlines sanitary and veterinary inspections, offering a competitive advantage.

The new service also includes transshipment, with containers transferred by feeder barges to Ancona and Ravenna, optimising Adriatic distribution.

According to HHLA, this solution enhances connectivity, reduces transit times, and boosts supply chain resilience in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Recently, HHLA and the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services (CML) successfully concluded the “Pin Handling mR” project. The aim of the IHATEC project was to develop a mobile robot to automate the manual repositioning of pins on container wagons.
