HHLA, passify digitalise truck handling at Hamburg terminals

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG’s (HHLA) Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) has been entirely digitalised and managed using the passify app.

The application has now processed over 200,000 arrivals at HHLA’s three Hamburg terminals since its launch at the beginning of the year.

With the successful deployment at CTA, HHLA has completed the introduction of the digital solution.

Previously, passify was implemented at the Burchardkai (CTB) and Tollerort (CTT) terminals. The unique self-service app automates and digitalises truck handling at ports and depots, allowing drivers to schedule slots, check in digitally, and identify themselves using two-factor authentication.

More than 13,000 truck drivers and haulage businesses already use passify to manage terminal access.

Passify’s successful launch has also considerably enhanced the security of HHLA terminals, reported HHLA. The actual trucker card, which was previously in use, has been now superseded by the digital app.

Passify offers quick and unambiguous driver verification via the app, meeting the highest security and data protection standards, as well as all criteria of the internationally recognised ISPS Code.

The software is completely linked with the HHLA terminals’ gate operations and aids truck drivers during the whole processing process.

The product was created by HHLA Next, HHLA’s venture-building and investing arm. This year, passify GmbH was founded as an autonomous subsidiary of HHLA Next.

In addition to the Hamburg terminals, passify is already operational at a Romanian hinterland terminal. HHLA noted that more overseas rollouts are planned.

Rebecca Vick, Director Container Development Hamburg, said: “By implementing passify, we are not only making truck processing at our Hamburg container terminals more secure and efficient – we’re also setting a new standard in the digitalisation of logistics processes.”

Recently, Port of Hamburg Beteiligungsgesellschaft SE, a subsidiary of the MSC Group, announced the successful completion of its voluntary public tender offer for the shares of HHLA).
