HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) has announced that three new cutting-edge storage blocks have been successfully put into service in recent months.
As a result, CTB currently has 22 electric storage blocks in use, which reportedly contributes to the terminal’s long-term growth.
Since the end of 2024, the three additional storage blocks have been gradually integrated into the terminal operations.
They are boosting the existing block storage capacity by approximately 6,000 TEUs to almost 45,000 TEUs.

The space required for automated storage blocks is less than half that of conventional straddle carrier yards due to denser storage.
Three electrically powered portal cranes service each of the additional storage blocks, which are located adjacent to the northern side of the existing automated container yard.
These will only use renewable power, reducing CO2 emissions significantly.
Ingo Witte, CTB Managing Director, said: “With the three new storage blocks, we are steadily pursuing the modernisation of our terminal.
“The innovative systems offer a more efficient use of space, reduce emissions and optimise operations for our clients. In doing so, we are not only making CTB more efficient, we are also taking a significant step towards achieving our sustainability targets.”
In November 2024, two new container gantry cranes arrived at HHLA CTB.
