Hapag-Lloyd appoints new Head of North America Business

German giant Hapag-Lloyd has announced Stuart Sandlin will replace Uffe Ostergaard as President of Region North America.

Sandlin, who is currently Senior Vice President (SVP) of Sales for the US, will assume his new position on 1 January 2023, while Ostergaard will take over another management position outside of Hapag-Lloyd in the US.

Sandlin joined Hapag-Lloyd in 2001 as a Sales Executive in Atlanta, Georgia.

He has held several management positions in the US and Germany and left Hapag-Lloyd in 2015 to become President North America for the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC).

When Hapag-Lloyd acquired UASC in 2017, Sandlin returned to the company and assumed his current position as SVP Area US.

“We are very pleased that Stuart, who is an outstanding logistics professional, will be succeeding Uffe,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd.

“With Stuart’s leadership experience and his vast commercial understanding, we will have a strong foundation for managing one of our most traditional key markets, but also for further growth in North America.

“Uffe has made an enormous contribution to Hapag-Lloyd. We thank him for his passionate work for our company – not least for completing the consolidation of our USA-based operations in Atlanta. We wish him the very best and lots of success in his new role.”

Hapag-Lloyd concluded the first nine months of 2022 posting a group profit of $14.7 billion despite a weakening market during the third quarter.

The figure stands $8 billion above last year’s profit for the same period.
