Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) is inviting organisations from all sectors to contribute ideas for a futuristic development of Steinwerder-Süd, a 42-hectare-sized area in the centre of Port of Hamburg, through an international competition with a grand prize of €100,000 and awards of €50,000.

The five-month market consultation process aims to secure a modern development of up to 1,100 metres of quay wall with three berths for large vessels.

This includes the terminal space at Oderhafen and new areas for manoeuvring.

Concepts must consider the best ways to run the site economically and create jobs. Ideas should also take into account future trends for strategic market development through interlinked logistic processes, new production processes and innovative digitisation concepts.

HPA is expecting statements on costs, timing and funding.

The authority is part of chainPORT, a multilateral partnership of ports aiming to mitigate investments in physical assets and encourage digitalisation, which recently set objectives for 2017.
