Navis’ first site in France transitions to N4 from competing TOS to optimize operations in multi-terminal deal.

January 15, 2014 OAKLAND, Calif.– Navis, the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced that Generale de Manutention Portuaire (GMP) Le Havre has gone live on Navis’ N4 terminal operating system (TOS) at Terminal North.

This represents Navis’ first site in France, providing the terminal with the ability to optimize operational performance and improve productivity.

As one of the only deep-sea ports in Northern Europe where mega container ships can be accommodated, GMP Le Havre handles 1,225,000 TEU annually between two terminals, with an expected growth of five percent over the next five years.

Following the successful launch at Terminal North in November, the teams are collaborating to execute another smooth implementation at a second facility, Terminal De France, which has an expected go live date in Q2 of 2014.

In the short time that GMP Le Havre has been using N4 at Terminal North, the terminal has already experienced operational productivity improvements and expects much more as the system is optimized.

N4 handled GMP’s normal operational volumes from day one with no issues and no drop in productivity.

“The implementation of a new TOS is an investment both financially and physically in terms of man-power,” says Louis Jonquiere, CEO of GMP Le Havre.

“We’re confident in the future of Terminal North as we have already seen promising results from the N4 implementation.

Choosing Navis was simple – we wanted a more user friendly, easy to use solution that would ensure our terminal maximizes efficiency and productivity to better serve our customers.”

Some of the notable benefits Terminal North has already seen to date since production include:

  • Real-time execution and reporting of operations
  • Improved ability for managers to have insight into terminal performance
  • Shortened vessel handling and preparation times
  • Reduced errors and ship to storage optimization
  • Better yard organization

“GMP Le Havre is a significant milestone for us; not only is it Navis’ first site in France, but the terminal also made the switch from another TOS,” said Guenter Schmidmeir, Vice President, EMEA, for Navis.

“Whenever a customer transitions to N4 from another TOS, there’s additional pressure to demonstrate success and improved performance in a timely fashion.

We’re very pleased to hear that GMP Le Havre is already seeing vast improvements in a short timeframe, and we look forward to another successfully implemented go live Q2 2014 with Terminal De France.”

N4 is Navis’ latest generation TOS, allowing customers the flexibility and scalability needed to run their operations – from a single terminal to multiple terminals spanning the globe managed from one central location.
