A video released by GCT shows its intermodal expansion project, which aims to increase productivity and efficiency for the surge in cargo volumes from larger containerships.

As vessels continue to upsize, GCT state they understand that it is becoming more important for ports to have the intermodal capabilities to effectively service them.

The expansion project aims to reconfigure rail tracks into a more efficient layout, with the installation of cantilever RMGs to decrease dwell times and increase velocity of cargo.

JJ Ruest, Chief Marketing Officer at CN Transportation Services, said: “It’s not about train speed; it’s about container velocity speed through the supply chain.”

The world is anticipating a cargo boom in the coming years, as well as a further increase in ship sizes, with Cosco recently ordering vessels with a 21,150 TEU capacity.
