Virgin Hyperloop One has released a new video that gives an overview of its ground-breaking project with DP World that seeks to connect the Indian cities of Mumbai and Pune and boost regional and global trade.

As the video says, the initiative began in February during a framework agreement was signed by Virgin Hyperloop One, DP World and the Indian state of Maharashtra, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Since then the project has gone from strength-to-strength and was classified as a public infrastructure project by the Indian government in November 2018.

A recent Port Technology technical paper looked at the gaps in the supply chain and how they can be fixed

The idea behind it all is to reduce travel time and cut emissions, as well as connect some of India’s inland manufacturing hubs to Mumbai, the country’s biggest port, and the shipping lanes of Indian Ocean and beyond.

Virgin Hyperloop One estimates that the technology could decrease travel time between Pune and Mumbai from three hours to less than 30 minutes.

As well as that, this project alone will, according to Hyperloop One, create one million direct and indirect jobs and also contribute billions of dollars to the economy.

In March 2019, DP World chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem spoke exclusively to PTI on the commercial viability of Hyperloop.
