Chosen by the IMO as the theme for World Maritime Day 2016; “Shipping: indispensable to the world” was discussed by experts from throughout the industry at the IMO’s London headquarters on September 29.
With more than 50,000 merchant ships crisscrossing the planet, carrying approximately 80% of the world’s trade by volume and 70% by value, the industry’s one million seafarers are a vital component of today’s globalised economy.
Watch Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the IMO, explains the theme behind this year’s event.
