A video released by MITK12Videos via YouTube shows a master’s degree student of Naval Construction and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology explains how containerships stay afloat, even when water has seeped into the hull.

Containerships are built in such a way that if one part of the ship is damaged, only this section will flood. Bulkheads are used to separate different compartments of the hull, preventing the entire ship from flooding and sinking.
