Friday Focus: APM MedPort Gets Final Crane Batch

APM Terminals’ MedPort Tangier has received the final three Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes it needs for its planned evolution into one of the most technologically advanced terminals in the world.

The collection of 12 remote-controlled super post-Panamax cranes are the world’s largest STS cranes.

They weigh 2,500 metric tons a height of 144 meters when boomed up, and outreach of 72 with twin-lift/ tandem lift capability.

According to APM Terminals, the remote-controlled cranes will provide the fastest, safest and most efficient loading and unloading services to the newest Ultra-Large Container Ships (ULCS).

They are final batch of cranes to be delivered to MedPort after the second batch arrived in May 2018.

The regeneration of MedPort Tangier is expected to be completed in 2019, at which point it will be home to some the most technologically advanced port equipment in the world and have an annual TEU capacity of five million.
