To celebrate International Women’s Day 2019 (IWD19), PTI will highlight the increasingly invaluable role women play in the maritime and technology industries.

As part of this, as we build up IWD19 – March 8, 2019 – we will profile women that have and continue to accelerate innovation in the sector.

Today’s profile looks at Nicola Clay, Smart Ports and Business Development Director at marine engineering experts Royal Haskoning DHV.

Clay has been pivotal to pioneering smart technologies in ports and container terminals.

In December 2018, PTI published a technical paper – Building Smart Ports: Through Many Small Steps – in which Clay discussed at length how and why ports around the world must adapt to the “global trends of digitalisation”.

Furthermore, she assessed the different ways of making port operations smarter, including how to generate value from data and improve terminal designs, all of which can greatly improve a terminal’s performance and productivity.

The theme of IWD19 is #BalanceforBetter, which calls on all industries to work together to build a more balanced world.

Make sure to return tomorrow and every other day in the build-up to IW19 as we continue to explore the vital role women play in maritime innovation.
