MSC has taken delivery of another 24,100 TEU megaship from China’s Jiangnan Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
The MSC RAYA is a part of the world’s largest series of containerships, boasting a deck area almost four times the size of a standard football field and a stacking capacity of 25 layers, equivalent to a towering 22-story building. It can carry 24,116 containers.
Jiangnan Shipyard is currently working on four more 24,000 TEU Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs) for the Swiss carrier, with two additional units of the same size being built at Jiangnan Shanghai Changxing HI and scheduled for delivery in 2024.

The MSC RAYA will start her maiden voyage on 9 April in Shanghai for the AE55/Griffin service.
The carrier is expected to phase in four 24,000 TEU newbuildings, including the MSC TESSA, MSC IRINA, and MSC CELESTINO MARESCA, into the Asia-Europe network of the 2M partnership between mid-March and early April.
The partners aim to help the maritime industry eliminate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by shaping standards for future fuels, financing innovative projects, and piloting low-carbon solutions.
