FERNRIDE has achieved a significant milestone with the successful evaluation of its safety and security concept for autonomous terminal tractors.
Conducted by TÜV SÜD, an international testing and certification company, the evaluation marks the first stage in the process of certifying FERNRIDE’s autonomous terminal tractors under European Union (EU) regulations.
FERNRIDE is developing a new safety concept aimed at ensuring compliance with the EU’s Machinery Directive. This is set to establish a benchmark for safety standards in autonomous trucking, both within the EU and globally.

The TÜV SÜD evaluation, which began in February 2024, focused on assessing the hazard and risk analyses, safety concepts, and validation plans for FERNRIDE’s products.
The review concluded that the company’s safety concept is robust and well-founded, while also identifying areas for further enhancement.
The evaluation is a crucial step in the lead-up to autonomous driving tests without a safety driver, which are scheduled to begin in December 2024.

Hendrik Kramer, CEO and Co-Founder of FERNRIDE, said: “The European Union is renowned for its stringent and comprehensive regulations and standards, making the process of achieving compliance and obtaining necessary certifications highly complex.
“As a result, many autonomous driving companies are hesitant to enter the market. FERNRIDE is pioneering the development of a benchmark when it comes to safety in autonomous trucking in the European Union.”
