In a bid to review Kazakhstan’s infrastructure development at the Port of Aktau and in the Khorgos region, DP World’s vice-chairman Jamal Majid Thaniah visited the Port to meet the Kazakhstan prime minister Karim Masimov.
This followed an agreement signed by Kazakhstan’s national railway company in 2013 to enable DP World to manage the development of the Khorgos inland container depot (ICD) and the special economic zone (SEZ).
In line with this development, DP world is providing similar services at Kazakhstan’s main cargo and bulk terminal at the Port of Aktau. This will be completed under a separate contract.
DP World vice-chairman Jamal Majid bin Thaniahsaid: “Developing special economic zones is an excellent way to attract business and investment in a growing emerging country and our experience of Jebel Ali port and the free zone provides some valuable insights into how to best manage these opportunities.”
The Khorgos ICD is scheduled for completion later this year, and is set to open for business in early 2015.
