With the recent figures showing Egypt’s exports to the UAE increasing by 224% in 2016, it is believed that Dubai-based port operator DP World are looking to capitalise and set up a dry port near the capital city of Cairo.

Daily News Egypt received a statement and report from Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Tarek Kabil, that claims delegates from DP World will visit Egypt in the very near future to hold talks about plans for the dry port and other potential investments. According to the report, DP World is planning to take advantage of Egypt’s strategic geographical location by developing port infrastructure and establishing free zones across the country.

The proposed dry port near Cairo would be a significant start on benefitting from a rapidly developing relationship between Egypt and the UAE. Plans for the port are said to include a logistics area which would allow for unloading, thus reducing traffic from Egypt’s busiest city.

PTI recently reported on DP World acquiring an additional 23.94% stake in Pusan Newport Company Limited (PNC), which expands their terminal network in South Korea.
