DP World has announced the addition of three 40-tonne electric trucks to its German branch.
This makes it one of the first companies in the country to offer zero-emission door delivery via heavy-duty electric vehicles.
The company plans to significantly reduce carbon emissions from its operations, with a goal of cutting emissions by nearly 700,000 tonnes over the next five years.
This represents a 20 per cent reduction from 2021 levels and will be achieved through a combination of electrifying assets, investing in renewable power, and exploring alternative fuels according to the company.
In the long-term, DP World aims to become carbon-neutral by 2040 and achieve net zero carbon emissions across its entire global network by 2050.

The new electric trucks, which run on green electricity and have a range of up to 400 kilometres, are well-suited for emission-free and low-noise deliveries in and around the regions of Baden Württemberg and Rheinland Pfalz.
Initially, they will be deployed in the Stuttgart and Black Forrest areas.
Earlier this month, DP World and Maersk signed a long-term strategic partnership to deliver green solutions at Jebel Ali Port while bolstering efficiency.
The partnership will provide support for Maersk’s customers by implementing new processes to increase quayside productivity, resulting in faster gate turnaround times at Jebel Ali Port and reduced bunker fuel consumption.
