DP World launches new rail service at Australian terminal

DP World has announced the development of its Australian activities with the inauguration of a new rail service at Stockland’s Yennora Intermodal Terminal.

The Terminal hosted an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on 20 May, attended by Julia Finn, Member for Granville (NSW), Parliamentary Secretary to the NSW Premier; Amna Al-Suwaidi, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Australia; Nicolaj Noes, Executive Vice President, Oceania, DP World; Tarun Gupta, Managing Director and CEO, Stockland; and Marika Calfas, CEO, NSW Ports.

From 20 May, the Yennora Intermodal Terminal will reportedly provide two direct train services to and from Port Botany every day via a dedicated DP World-owned and managed rail route.

To achieve greater efficiency, the daily port-rail service will manage an annual rail capacity of 160,000 TEU. It is also predicted to eliminate up to 160 truck journeys every day, resulting in fewer total emissions.

Tarun Gupta, Managing Director and CEO, Stockland, added: “The terminal’s direct connection to ports, roads, and rail improves the logistics that businesses need to serve their customers.

“Its scale also enables DP World and its customers to take advantage of the growing economic opportunities in the region. We look forward to continuing our work with DP World to bring to life the exciting vision of the Yennora Intermodal Terminal.”

Recently, DP World invested 130 million ($165 million) in three new locations in Romania to support the country’s expanding prominence as a vital European trade centre
