DP World has unveiled a drive-through scanner at the Port of Constanta, designed to streamline customs inspections and enhance security for import and transit goods arriving in Romania.
The new scanner at DP World’s recently opened RoRo terminal facilitates truck inspections by reducing processing times from 5–7 hours to 2 minutes. It will be used to inspect all import and transit containers.
Using x-ray technology, the scanner addresses long-standing bottlenecks caused by time-consuming manual inspections, which previously required the physical opening and thorough checking of trucks and containers.
This technology allows officials to verify that the products being transported match their packing lists and meet EU safety standards. This is expected to increase supply chain efficiency and security at Constanta.
By eliminating delays and costly downtime, the scanner reportedly boosts Romania’s role as a critical logistics hub and enhances trade security at the European Union’s eastern border.

Kris Adams, Executive Vice President of Eastern Europe, DP World, said: “This new scanner is a game-changer for trade in Romania.
“It allows us to provide our customers with faster, more reliable, and secure transit of goods. DP World’s investment in this innovative solution demonstrates our commitment to enhancing Romania’s trade infrastructure and supporting the country’s growth as a key player in European logistics.”
The introduction of the scanner complements DP World’s €130 million ($153 million) investments in Romania, including two new facilities at Constanta: a €65 million ($76.5 million) project cargo and RoRo terminal, and a new €21 million ($24.7 million) intermodal logistics hub in Aiud which opened in May 2024.
