DP World-owned Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) hub has held a ground-breaking ceremony for the first phase of its new Jafza Logistics Park.

The trade and logistics hub will accommodate warehousing, processing and logistics activities carried out in Dubai. Completion is scheduled for 2023.

Jafza Logistics Park is set to reinforce the logistics cluster in Jafza, which has grown by 14 per cent since 2016 according to DP World.

The project covers a total area of over 46,000 square meters, of which 87 per cent will be allocated to warehousing. The remaining space will be dedicated to office facilities.

“We recognise the critical role the logistics sector plays in enabling the growth of various industries around the globe,” commented Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director at DP World United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jafza, during the ceremony.

“As the UAE continues to grow into a global processing and re-distribution gateway, we have experienced a significant spike in demand for the logistics and warehousing space.”

“We are building the Jafza Logistics Park in response to this increase in demand and to further boost the development of the UAE’s logistics sector”.

DP World stated that Jafza’s logistics cluster is home to over 460 companies from 30 countries and the Jafza Logistics Park aims to support their growth as well as attract new players seeking to establish themselves in the market.

Last week, DP World posted container volume figures for Q1 2022.

The company handled a total of 19.3 million TEU across its global portfolio of container terminals in the first three months of 2022.
