DCT Gdańsk (DCT) has officially opened a direct rail connection to the Czech Republic in partnership with German intermodal transport operator METRANS.
The rail connection’s maiden trip successfully ran from Ostrava to Gdańskon 6 September.
The service will run three times a week with arrivals at the DCT terminal every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The company announced the new service will deploy 750metre-long trains for the first – instead of the usual 650 metre – raising carrying capacity by 15 per cent per train.
DCT is one of the largest rail facilities in Europe with an annual rail capacity of 750,000 TEU.
The rail connection is set to significantly improve logistics flow in the European region, which is crucial considering the ongoing high demand.
In August, DCT placed an order for 10 new Semi-Automated Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (ARTG) from Konecranes.
The additions will be advanced by the opening of its new deep-water quay in 2024.
