Davie, a global shipbuilder located in Canada, has announced plans to make a large long-term investment in the American shipbuilding sector.
Davie’s decision, which is pending final site and partner selection, coincides with a set of initiatives outlined by the US government to improve the efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness of US shipbuilding.
The development of improved US ships for both domestic and foreign markets is expected to revitalise American maritime power, boost economic growth, and provide skilled employment for the American people.
Davie’s intentions are also in line with the ICE Pact, a trilateral agreement established on 11 July by the US, Canada, and Finland.

The ICE Pact will increase the manufacture of in-demand polar icebreakers in member nations, benefiting economic, climatic, and national security while also supporting critical shared interests in the disputed arctic areas.
Significantly, on 22 July, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) unveiled its 2024 Arctic Strategy, which outlines efforts the DOD will take in partnership with allies and partners to keep the Arctic secure and stable.
