Damen Shipyards Group has acquired the Dutch shipbuilder Keppel Offshore & Marine’s Verolme shipyard in the Botlek area of the Port of Rotterdam.

Dutch-headquartered shipbuilder Damen, which has operations in Singapore, is improving its “competitive” offer in pursuing markets in ship repair and conversion in the Netherlands.

This purchase gives the shipbuilder four large repair yards within close proximity of the Port of Rotterdam: two in Rotterdam, one in Vlissingen and one in Amsterdam.

Obtaining the 90 x 405 metre dock at the yard will allow the shipbuilder to cater to the largest maritime objects.

Damen intends to continue activities in the Botlek area with the current employees of the yard.

Verolme yard, which was established in 1957, has three graving docks, a quay capacity of 1,800 metres, and 250 employees.

Damen's other ship repair facility in Rotterdam has a smaller dock that measures 46 x 307 metres.
