COSCO SHIPPING has commenced operations at its Chancay Terminal, located in the central part of the Peruvian coastline.
The terminal is 1,500 metres long and has four berths, two for containers and two for multi-purpose use. It can accommodate the world’s largest containerships.
Additionally, it is designed to handle 1 million TEUs, 6 million tonnes of bulk cargo, and 160,000 automobiles per year, and it includes storage yards, warehouses, and multi-purpose logistics centres.
A 1.8-kilometre tunnel connects the port to the Pan-American Highway, facilitating land access to the economic hinterland.

Chancay Port has incorporated loading and unloading equipment, with pure electric container trucks alone accounting for a 25 per cent reduction in energy use.
Following a successful trial operating phase, plans are being developed to construct a regional logistics distribution centre at the COSCO SHIPPING Chancay Peru Terminal.
By establishing two direct container shipping routes linking Shanghai Port and Chancay Port, freight transit time from Peru to China will be cut to only 23 days, reported the shipping company.

Furthermore, the launch of a RoRo service is expected to make it easier to construct a large vehicle distribution centre in South America.
The Chancay Port Project Phase I will reportedly produce more than 8,000 direct job opportunities. The port project office has launched the development of animal rescue centres, taking proactive responsibility for the rehabilitation of penguins, seals, and bird species, as well as improving the ecological health of wetlands, beaches, and natural areas.
COSCO SHIPPING Chancay Port intends to be Latin America’s hub port, distinguished by operational efficiency and commitment to green, low-carbon growth.
Through proper management, the port hopes to convert the maritime routes between Chancay and Shanghai into a vibrant channel for China and Latin America’s mutual prosperity and progress.
