COSCO carries out Tianjin wind power project phase II

COSCO SHIPPING has successfully connected three wind turbines to the grid for power generation at the Port of Tianjin.

This marks the completion of phase II of the 15 Megawatts wind power project of the Green Intelligent Energy Demonstration Program Section C.

Jointly implemented by COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin, COSCO Goldwind and Tianjin Port Group, the news follows completion of the 9 Megawatts wind power project phase I on 15 December 2021.

The Green Intelligent Energy Demonstration Program Section C of the Port of Tianjin (Phase II) is being developed in the area of the Beijiang Union International Container Terminal and Ro-Ro Terminal.

The programme is funded by Tianjin COSCO Goldwind New Energy Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin, and includes three Goldwind 171-5 Megawatts wind power generators.

These are expected to provide 35 million Kilowatts of clean electricity annually, saving about 14,000 tons of standard coal and reducing about 34,895 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

With the successful grid connection of the 15 Megawatts wind power project, the total number of wind turbines under the Demonstration Program has reached five, with a total installed capacity of 24 Megawatts and an installed photovoltaic capacity of 1 Megawatt peak.

Currently, the five turbines provide 58,357,000 Kilowatts of clean power to the Port of Tianjin every year.

Tianjin Port handled 18,360,000 TEU so far in 2022, a 4.3 per cent increase from the previous year. Tianjin is one of the spearheading ports for environmental reform and decarbonising the maritime industry.

Tianjin Port is now among the most technologically sophisticated facilities in the world thanks to Tianjin Port Group (TPG) and Huawei’s fully constructed new smart terminal earlier this year.
