Hannibal, the MTO of the Contship Group, has announced a new intermodal service by A2B-online, which will connect Melzo with Moerdijk, in the Netherlands.
Initially, this new connection will offer three weekly circulations, with an increase to four round trips planned starting in April 2025. Rail traction within Italian territory will be operated by Oceanogate, a Contship Group company.
The Moerdijk terminal is a strategic choice, reported Hannibal. As a multimodal hub located within a port boasting over 40 kilometres (km) of roads and 35 km of rail tracks, it enjoys a privileged position offering further connections to various destinations in the United Kingdom.
The service will ensure fast transit times and offer a more sustainable alternative to road transport, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions. With this initiative, the Contship Group continues to address evolving market demands and strengthens its position as a reliable partner in international freight transport.
“This connection represents a significant step in strengthening commercial ties between the Netherlands and Italy, perfectly aligning with our objective of optimising our customers’ supply chains,” stated Andrea Spagnuolo, Sales & Business Development Manager at Contship.
