Contecon Guayaquil to manage COSCO's general cargo ships

Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) Ecuadorian commercial subsidiary, has formed a strategic alliance with COSCO Shipping Specialized Carrier.

The partnership aims to handle COSCO’s general cargo ships at the Port of Guayaquil for the next three years.

The collaboration aligns with CGSA’s goals of expanding its client base, setting the regional standard for service, and securing the Port of Guayaquil’s position as Ecuador’s primary logistics centre.

CGSA has handled six COSCO vessels since the beginning of the year and it expects to handle at least one vessel every month moving forward.

Javier Lancha, CGSA Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our handling of project cargo plays a crucial role in supporting major investment projects across the country, significantly boosting economic growth and advancing regional port infrastructure.”

COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a branch of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited, owns and maintains a fleet of approximately 100 vessels, including multifunctional and heavy lift ships, semi-submersible vessels, and carriers for vehicles, logs, and asphalt.

In March, Contecon Guayaquil S.A. announced the successful integration of Terminal Tracker by Identec Solutions to enhance its yard operation visibility and planning efficiency.
