Container throughput at the Port of Singapore has risen by around 8% to more than 2.6 million TEU in February, 2015.
Singapore has recently announced its decision to construct a US$646 million port facility with the help of a South-Korea’s fourth-largest construction company, Daelim Industrial Co.
The volume increase is around 200,000 TEU more than that of February 2014, when container volumes had reached around 2.41 million.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore were unable to comment on the increase due to a policy of not speaking on monthly figures because of their unpredictability and continuous fluctuations in TEU box volumes in the market.
The Port of Singapore is currently ranked first for transhipment figures and handled a total of 32.63 million TEU in 2013, 85% of which was transhipped to another port of call.
In our countdown of the top 10 busiest ports globally, Singapore is ranked second.
