Containerchain, creator and provider of cloud-based software for automating container logistics operations, have taken on a new chairman of the advisory board.

Former managing director of ANL, the Australian shipping liner acquired by CM CGM in 1998, John Lines will bring his almost fifty years of experience in shipping to Containerchain — focusing on advising portside and landside stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges that digitization will bring to the industry.

ANL is a global operator in the industry, and a major regional operator, handling over 1.2 million TEU in 2017.

“I’m delighted to have John join us in the capacity of Chairman of the Containerchain Advisory Board as we continue on our path of transforming the efficiency and productivity of the sector.”

Lines said: “The industry is facing a pivotal moment as it grapples with the greatest disruption since the invention of the shipping container.

“Digitization offers a way for the sector to operate much more profitably and sustainably, effects I’ve seen first-hand first as a customer of Containerchain and a stakeholder in the industry.

“I’m excited to be able to offer my services to a dynamic and game-changing business like Containerchain.”

Last year, Containerchain also hired ex-Hamburg Süd executive Patrick Mertens to head up its commercial activities in Europe.
