Container Weighing Confusion Rockets in PTI Poll

A current poll which is being carried out by PTI has found that the majority of voters are either not ready or are still confused by the upcoming SOLAS regulation, which is due to come into effect on July 1, 2016.

The container weighing debate has been ongoing, with shippers and port/terminal operators expressing uncertainty as to the correct way to ensure that the verified gross mass (VGM) of containers is correctly verified.

PTI previously reported that global cargo handling NGO, ICHCA International will be holding a practical seminar in Antwerp in a bid to resolve confusion.

The conference will focus on three main themes, which are: compliance, communication and contingency planning.

PTI’s latest video sought to address who will be responsible for regulating and enforcing the new rule, with Jonathan C. Williams of ship broking company FONASBA, stating that the responsibility will ultimately fall on shippers.
