CMA CGM has announced an Ethiopian services upgrade due to new strategic calls added to its Mediterranean Express (MEX) and Red Sea Express (REX) services, as well as the development of its intermodal offering between Djibouti and Ethiopia.

PTI previously reported on CMA CGM’s new development strategy, which involves a new fleet and improved transit times to the West African coast from the regions of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and India.

CMA CGM has developed its Ethiopian intermodal transportation solutions by serving six key inland destinations – Addis Ababa, Mekele, Nefas Meewcha, Gibe, Shashemene and Jinga – in partnership with reliable local stakeholders.

The majority of cargo intended for the landlocked Ethiopian market transits through the Djibouti Dolareh Container Terminal.

CMA CGM has added a new Djibouti call on both its MEX1 and REX2 services, which directly link the country to Asian, European and Middle Eastern markets.

Djibouti is the natural main gateway for Ethiopia, one of the most economically promising countries in the Horn of Africa.
