CMA CGM shipping group has opened its Navigation and Port Operations Centre in APL’s corporate headquarters in Singapore to strengthen its ties in the country and act as a critical navigation support unit of the group’s vessel operations.

Designed to be the Group’s third navigation command centre to its combined fleet of more than 500 container vessels, the facility will reinforce the city-state’s role as a key maritime hub, featuring the latest navigation assistance tools and technologies to track and examine wide-ranging nautical, meteorological and geographic information continuously in real-time.

Each centre’s team of experts assess, anticipate and mitigate any navigation-related risks based on live analytics of the vessels’ operating speeds, ocean currents, weather forecasts and high traffic areas.

Accurate guidance and alerts are provided to its deck officers on how vessel routes, speeds and fuel consumption can be optimised across its fleet, while ensuring the safety of its crews and vessels globally.

The group’s two other centers are located in CMA CGM’s corporate headquarters in Marseille, France, and its regional office in Miami in the United States.

CMA CGM Group revealed its last month (December 2016) that APL had increased its Q3 volume by almost 9.9% to 1.3 million TEUs in the first three months under its ownership.
