CMA CGM Group has announced the introduction of a new direct service, named Bangladesh India Gulf Express (BIGEX).
The shipping company has reported that this is the fastest and only direct service connecting Bangladesh to Gulf regions including Jebel Ali and Abu Dhabi, as well as Nhava Sheva and Mundra in India.
The BIGEX service will start operating on 5 April from the Port of Chittagong via m/v HONG AN.
Three 1,700-TEU vessels will be deployed on the westbound rotation on a weekly basis.
The services’ rotation follows as: Chittagong – Colombo – Mangalore – Nhava Sheva – Mundra – Jebel Ali – Abu Dhabi – Chittagong.
According to CMA CGM, the arrival of the BIGEX service transformed Bangladesh’s maritime route to the Gulf and India by charting the Bangladesh-India-Sri Lanka-Gulf corridor.

BIGEX is expected to increase Chittagong’s access to transshipment hubs by including Gulf and Indian ports in addition to the key Asian ports.
According to the carrier, this increases market accessibility and decreases transit times, as seen, for example, in the case of goods shipped from Bangladesh to the US via Colombo.
Earlier this month, CMA CGM reported impressive financial results for the full year 2022, with revenues rising 33 per cent over the year prior.
