Xiamen Yuanhai container terminal, which claims to be the first fully-automated container terminal in China, has been put into trial operation by the government, reported What’s on Xiamen.

The container terminal is located at the No 3 berth at Haicang Port and was co-founded by the Xiamen government, COSCO, and the China Communications Construction Company.

An intelligent system is installed at the terminal which controls its entire workflow, thereby giving it greater efficiency over most other competing ports.

Throughput at Xiamen port is expected to be as high as 780,000-910,000 TEU – 20% higher than ports that are not fully automated.

To date, the container terminal has received a total investment of around US$105 million.
