Kalmar has secured a large equipment order from long-standing customer the Port of Tauranga, New Zealand, comprising six hybrid straddle carriers and one electric straddle carrier.
The order was booked in Kalmar’s Q1 2026 intake, with delivery scheduled for Q4 2026.
The investment forms part of the port’s ongoing fleet renewal and decarbonisation strategy at New Zealand’s largest container gateway.
The Port of Tauranga, located on the North Island, handles around 25 million tonnes of cargo annually, including approximately 1.2 million TEUs.
The terminal has undergone sustained capital investment in recent years to accommodate larger vessel calls and growing cargo volumes.
Kalmar equipment already forms a core component of its straddle carrier fleet, including seven hybrid units.

Dan Kneebone, General Manager, Property & Infrastructure, Port of Tauranga, said: “Expanding our use of eco-efficient equipment is vital if we are to achieve our aim to be carbon-zero by 2050 and to reduce our emissions by 5 per cent per year relative to cargo volumes. This order also demonstrates our firm commitment to being a socially responsible operator.”
From a supplier perspective, the partnership continues a long-running collaboration between both parties.

In March, Kalmar secured an order from Yilport Oslo Terminal Investments AS for three electric reachstackers.
