Port of Melbourne ends 2025 with TEU volumes up 10 per cent

The Port of Melbourne recorded a 10.9 per cent year‑on‑year (YoY) rise in container throughput for December 2025, handling 314,000 TEUs.

Full container import volumes (excluding Bass Strait traffic) climbed to 125,000 TEUs, up 8.5 per cent, supported by stronger furniture, home appliances and paperboard traffic compared with the same month last year.

Additionally, full container export volumes (excluding Bass Strait) rose to 60,000 TEUs, up 18 per cent in December 2025.

Similarly, the port’s total non‑container trade in December 2025 totalled 2.09 million revenue tonnes, representing a 7.8 per cent YoY increase (up 152,000 revenue tonnes) compared with December 2024.

December 2025 marked a rebound for the port, with both container and non‑container volumes up, reflecting a strong end to the year.

In October 2025, the Port of Melbourne was named a Sector Leader, maintaining its rating as a leading Australian and international port in the 2025 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Infrastructure Asset Assessment.

Two months later, Port of Melbourne released its 2025 Sustainability Report, showcasing key achievements and progress made during the FY25 period.
