The Port of Aarhus closed 2025 with one of its strongest financial and operational performances in 180 years, setting a new national benchmark for container throughput in Denmark.
Denmark’s largest commercial port reported revenue of DKK 406 million ($63 million), up 8 per cent year-on-year, while EBIT rose by more than 200 per cent to DKK 118 million ($18 million).
The results were underpinned by record container volumes and gains in market share across the Danish container segment.
Container throughput reached 843,665 TEUs at Østhavnen, marking an increase of nearly 28 per cent compared to 2024 and establishing a new Danish record.
The port now handles more than 72 per cent of the national container market, reflecting continued consolidation of volumes through Aarhus.
Growth was largely driven by increased transhipment activity, supported by capacity constraints at other major European ports, which redirected flows towards Northern European hubs with available handling capacity.
Total cargo throughput for the year reached 11.3 million tonnes.

Kåre Clemmesen, Interim CEO of Port of Aarhus, said: “We are presenting a strong result in a year characterised by turmoil, bottlenecks and unpredictability in the world around us. This is a result we have only been able to achieve because employees, customers, partners and the wider business community have all pulled in the same direction and have been able to adapt quickly.
“It has demanded a great deal from everyone, and it underscores Port of Aarhus’ ability to navigate in uncertainty while continuing to develop the business and strengthen our position.”
From a governance perspective, the port highlighted the importance of collaboration with stakeholders in supporting strategic development, infrastructure investment and long-term competitiveness.

Despite elevated operational activity, the port reduced CO2 emissions from its own operations by 39 per cent compared with 2024. The Port of Aarhus remains on track to achieve CO2 neutrality in its own operations by 2030.
