Noatum Ports, the ports operating arm of AD Ports Group, has received three ship-to-shore (STS) and six rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes at its new multipurpose terminal in Safaga, Egypt, ahead of operations expected later in 2026.
The Super Post-Panamax cranes, manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC), were delivered from China following completion of core infrastructure works, marking the start of phased operational readiness at the terminal.
Located on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, the Safaga terminal is set to become the first internationally operated facility in Upper Egypt, supporting container, general cargo, dry and liquid bulk, and RoRo traffic.
The development is intended to enhance regional connectivity and support trade flows across the Red Sea and wider global routes.

“This milestone signals the transition from development to operations at a strategically important location. The terminal will serve as a key Red Sea gateway, supporting global trade flows and contributing to Egypt’s economic growth.”

The terminal will cover approximately 810,000 square metres (m²), with a 1,000-metre quay and capacity for up to 450,000 TEUs, alongside 5 million tonnes of dry bulk and general cargo, 1 million tonnes of liquid bulk, and 50,000 CEUs of RoRo cargo.
AD Ports Group has invested AED 193 million ($52 million) in the crane procurement as part of a wider $200 million terminal development, following a 30-year concession awarded in 2023 in partnership with the Red Sea Ports Authority (RSPA).
The project is partially financed through a $115 million facility led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), with participation from National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK Egypt) and other investors.
The terminal is expected to commence operations in the second half of 2026.
