The Port of Grangemouth has completed a Liebherr crane upgrade raising two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes by 2.2 metres to handle higher stacks and larger straddle carriers while extending asset life and increasing capacity.
The port operates three Liebherr STS cranes and the two older units have now undergone the crane raise programme to futureproof container handling operations.
Handling more than 250,000 TEUs annually the port continues to adapt to rising container volumes and evolving equipment requirements.
Higher container stacks and the introduction of larger next generation straddle carriers required increased clearance beneath the STS cranes to maintain safe and efficient operations.
Liebherr Transform delivered a crane raise upgrade increasing the lift height of the two STS cranes by 2.2 metres.
Both cranes remained on the rail during the works minimising disruption to terminal operations.
Each crane was raised within six weeks highlighting Liebherr’s ability to deliver customer focused upgrade solutions while maintaining productivity.

The crane raise has reportedly increased lift height and extended service life enabling the equipment to meet modern container handling demands.
